                             CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING (Level 4)

 The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (Level 4) qualification is  beneficial for funeral service employees who may:- 

  • wish to become an NAFD approved tutor while working as a Funeral Director* FD's wishing to become a NAFD approved tutor are expected to be holders of the Diploma in Funeral Directing and take additional training and assessment following completion of this particular qualification. Additional fees apply.

  • have existing responsibility for the training and assessment of staff on behalf of their employer
  • have responsibility for qualification training delivery and assessment on behalf of a kindred association
  • wish to achieve a nationally recognised qualification in teaching and assessment
  • be an existing trainer and would like to become formally qualified
  • Duration: 10 one day workshops, plus 10 day self-guided learning.

Qualification Content

There are six Units to achieve.

Unit 1: Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training

The Certificate in Education and Training will help you to fully understand your responsibilities as a tutor and the responsibilities you have for the successful training and development of the learners. You will learn how to plan each training session effectively and to make the best use of the time and the necessity for a range of resources available. 

In addition to individual training sessions, you will learn how to plan a training programme effectively. By learning how to plan training programmes effectively, you will be able to ensure that sufficient time is devoted to each topic area and to ensure each subject is taught thoroughly.

Unit 2: Delivering Education and Training

When training adults working in the funeral service, it is essential that new trainers observe and act upon the differing needs of all individuals and their requirements in order that training session can be delivered using an inclusive manner. We help trainers learn how to deliver training sessions using a wide variety of situations and consideration to different learning environments.

Keeping adults motivated and involved in the training sessions can be difficult are skills which are learned using a range of different training methods available to today's trainers. Finding out about these methods and how to apply them to your lessons is vital to the success and effectiveness of the training you are providing.

Unit 3: Using Resources for Education and Training

This Unit focuses on the use of resources to promote equality, value the diversity of the group and to meet the individual needs of the learners. Completion of the Unit will help  you to identify appropriate resources to aid the learning and progress of all individuals.You will learn how to analyse the effectiveness of resources used in your own area of specialism in relation to meeting the individual needs of learners.

Unit 4: Assessing learners in Education and Training

One of the most frequently overlooked roles within the training environment is that of comprehensive assessment and monitoring the progress of each learner, i.e. checking to make sure the learners’ are keeping up with the content of the training session and learning about what they need to know about, understand and do. The ability to effectively assess each learner's progress is an essential part of  a tutor's responsibility to enable improvement to take place where necessary.

You will learn about the range of different assessment methodologies used in a training environment for assessment purposes, including understanding the need for initial assessment contrasting with a final assessment. You will also learn about a range of approaches to implement assessments within your training practice and how to tailor these for the benefit of your learners.

Unit 5: Planning to meet the needs of learners in Education and Training.

 Successful achievement of this Unit will help you to analyse the role of the tutor and use of initial and diagnostic assessment, in agreeing individual learning goals by negotiating and agreeing individual learning with each learners

In addition to negotiating and agreeing learning goals, you will understand the significance and importance of maintaining learner records

An essential part of this particular Unit is to know how to devise a scheme of work in accordance with internal and external requirements, and how to design teaching and learning plans which meet the aims and individual needs of all learners and curriculum / syllabus requirements

Completion of this Unit will help you to explain ways in which teaching and learning plans can be adapted to meet the individual needs of learners

And to identify opportunities for learners to provide feedback to inform inclusive practice

Unit 6: Teaching in a Specialist Area

This particular aims to enable understanding of the structure and the aims of key qualifications in a specialist area, and how the aims can be effectively met.

You will learn how to explain how your own approach to the planning and preparation of a learning programme in your own specialist area takes account of key curriculum /syllabi issues, including the role of new and emerging technologies.

This Unit presents the opportunity for you to review the effectiveness of your own knowledge and skills in your  specialist area, and in doing so, enables you to identify your own strengths and areas for improvement in relation to your tutoring practice.

How we will assess your learning.

First of all, we will expect you to commit to attending all face to face tutor led workshops and to allow time for your own self-guided learning in between workshops.

You will also be expected to complete a series of assignments, a case study,completion of a portfolio and to undertake the delivery and assessment practice to enable direct observation to take place.
